Documentary Shorts

Documentary Shorts

These are the types of videos I most enjoy creating.

It’s an exciting challenge trying to tell someone else’s story in a way that’s both truthful and interesting. They also help me become a better filmmaker. I’m always faced with really tight constraints. For instance I’ll typically only have 20 minutes to get an interview and another 20 minutes to shoot b-roll (sometimes it’s just a person sitting at their desk working). I have to work to find creative solutions for turning the mundane into something compelling.

These videos are definitely not perfect, but I believe they serve as a testament to my skills as an editor and creativity as a storyteller.

Motion Graphics

Motion Graphics

I started teaching myself motion graphics sophomore year of college. At the time there were no motion graphics classes in the Missouri School of Journalism. I saw that as a need I could fill.

I was hired by the Reynold’s Journalism Institute to create these two videos. The first is a promo for their student app competition. The second is an example of infographic journalism for their “Innovation in Focus” series.
